What did you do this week that took faith to accomplish? What truth about God did have to fight to believe?
When was a time that your faith failed? Where in your life or ministry have you begun relying on experience, giftedness, or routine rather than ongoing dependence on Jesus?
Read Mark 9:14-29. What stands out to you about this story? Why do you think Mark connects the transfiguration and this “real world” interaction? What do you think the Scribes and Disciples were arguing about? Why were the disciples unable to help the boy? What does that reveal about who Jesus is?
Can you relate to the boy’s father? How is it that belief and unbelief can coexist? How is this man a model of faith in action? How does he bring both his hope and fear under the authority of Jesus?
What does Jesus’ ministry to the boy reveal to us about who He is and the nature of His power?
Who is someone in your life who needs to know the power of Christ to set free and give new life? Posture yourself in prayerful dependence asking Jesus for an opportunity to share this story with them.
